Catching packing errors before shipment

An automotive supplier put customer-specific packing rules and quality holds into the scan workflow at the pack station.

The same part could have different packing rules

A part could be right for an order and still go out in the wrong container, at the wrong quantity, or with the wrong label. The packing team had to apply the receiving customer’s requirements while also checking that the material was available to ship. A quality hold could change that last answer even when the parts were already at the station.

Checking the order as the container is packed

The supplier used Pocket-E Verify to bring those checks into scan-to-pack. As operators scanned material into a container, Verify checked the part and lot against the order and its packing rules. A mismatch or a lot on hold was flagged at the station, while the operator still had the parts in front of them.

The shipping label followed the validated contents and the customer’s label requirements. The pack record kept the link between the container and the lots inside it.

A shipping record the team could follow back

Packing had a consistent point to resolve exceptions before freight left the dock. If a customer or quality team asked about a shipment later, the team could go back to the container record and see which lots had been packed.
